Few things rattle a local business owner like searching their own name and finding nothing. If your Google Business Profile is not showing up on Search or Maps, it is almost always one of a handful of fixable causes. Here are the seven most common, in the order worth checking.
1. The profile is not verified yet
An unverified profile generally will not appear publicly. Open your Business Profile and look for a "Verify now" prompt. If you have not completed verification, that is almost certainly the issue. See our guide to adding your business to Google and our verification walkthrough.
2. It was suspended
Google suspends profiles that appear to break the guidelines, often for things as small as keyword-stuffing the business name, a virtual office address, or an abrupt change to core info. A suspended profile disappears until reinstated. Fix the violation first, then file a reinstatement request.
3. Wrong, missing, or too-broad category
If your primary category does not match what people search, Google may not surface you for those terms. Set a precise primary category and relevant secondary ones. We cover this in choosing categories that rank.
4. Duplicate listings
Two profiles for the same business confuse Google and split your signals; sometimes neither ranks. Search for duplicates and have the extra one removed or merged.
5. Inconsistent name, address, phone (NAP)
If your business details differ across your website, directories, and your profile, Google trusts you less and may show you less. Make your NAP identical everywhere.
6. The profile is brand new
Freshly verified profiles can take days to weeks to stabilize in results. If everything else is correct, give it time and keep the profile active with posts, photos, and reviews.
7. You are simply being outranked
You may be showing up, just not on page one of the map pack. That is a ranking problem, not a visibility bug. Build reviews, complete every field, and follow our map pack ranking guide.
Common questions
How long until my new business shows up on Google? A newly verified profile can take from a few days to a few weeks to appear consistently. If it is verified and correctly set up, give it time and keep it active with posts, photos and reviews.
Why did my Google Business Profile get suspended? Common triggers are keyword-stuffing the business name, using a virtual or PO box address, or making sudden changes to core information. Fix the underlying issue, then submit a reinstatement request.
How do I fix a duplicate Google listing? Search for the duplicate, then use the report or claim flow to have it removed or merged. Two profiles for one business split your ranking signals and can keep both from showing.
